Fredrik Hammar joins KV Mechelen in Belgium
- I want to thank everyone who made it possible for me to fulfill my dream of playing in Hammarby. These years have been the most memorable of my life, and I have enjoyed every day at the club. Bajen has given me memories I will carry with me for the rest of my life. See you soon, says Hammar.
Fredrik Hammar joined Hammarby via HTFF in Division 1 ahead of the 2022 season, after his second stay in Akropolis IF ended with relegation from the Superettan. Before that, he’d been brought up in Brommapojkarna and played for Championship club Brentford, where, however, there was only one A-team appearance in each club. Hammar immediately set the tone in Ettan Norra and also debuted in the Allsvenskan for Bajen in July, when he was substituted in the 3-0 win against IFK Gothenburg.
In 2023, he established himself as a starter for the club he grew up rooting for; out of 22 Allsvenskan matches, Fredrik was in the eleven 18 times, with a hat-trick against Sirius and two assists as a result, while as you know, there were also continental clashes against Twente for him and Hammarby this year. Even last year, Hammar was often in the eleven; he started 15 Allsvenskan matches and jumped into another ten for the silver medalists. The midfielder has never made any secret of his strong green and white sympathies and he not least grew into an important derby piece.
Now he is ready to become a red and yellow fan favorite in Jupiter League and KV Mechelen.
